bio
Örlygur Steinar Arnalds is an Icelandic musician whose work spans over everything from experimental instrumental composition, electroacoustic music, free improvisation, and club music. For the past eight years, he has been an active member of Reykjavík’s DIY/DIT music scene—organizing events, releasing music, and doing sound engineering. He is a founding member of the art collective and label
post-dreifing
and has participated in organizing events and releases with
RASK
collective,
Agalma label and
Smekkleysa record store/label.
In 2022 he graduated from the Iceland University of the Arts with a BA in composition and new media.
Örlygur is a member of the bands
sideproject ,
glupsk and
korter í flog .
With these projects, he has released albums on acclaimed labels such as
SVBKVLT ,
SUPERPANG and
Mengi records
as well as playing festivals such as Primavera Sound, Unsound, Norberg Festival, All Ears, By:Larm, Roskilde and local festivals Extreme Chill and Iceland Airwaves.
Drawn to the physical process of how sound is produced, he is interested in its effects, social and cultural relations, and the bodily reactions it evokes. He embraces playful, process-driven methods—favoring connection over structure and allowing the production of sound itself to shape its form.
